There has been a shortage of sunflower oil for quite some time now.
There has been a shortage of sunflower oil for quite some time now. This is because of the war in Ukraine.
Many supermarkets set a maximum amount that the customer can still buy. This might also make it interesting to see what alternatives there are. It is important to see what we use sunflower oil for.
A good alternative to sunflower oil for frying is the peanut oil (peanut oil). This oil is extracted from peanuts. The taste is good here. There are 2 types of this: the cold-pressed oil and the refined oil. If you want to take advantage of all the good properties of peanut oil, choose the cold-pressed version. With the refined oil, many good nutrients and antioxidants are lost during the production process.
This also applies to sunflower oil. Many people buy the refined sunflower oil, but if you opt for the cold-pressed version, all the vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients are preserved.
Other alternatives include palm oil, coconut oil and almond oil. The former is a lot less healthy because of the many saturated fats. Coconut oil and almond oil are healthier options. Like peanut oil, coconut oil and almond oil are available both cold-pressed and refined. Again, take the cold-pressed variety to profit form all the healthy benefits of coconut oil.
The above alternatives, except for the almond oil, are also suitable for deep-frying. This is due to the high smoke point of the oil.
Olive oil and linseed oil are not suitable for frying or deep frying. Both oils are better suited for making a dressing.
