Murukku flour is made by grinding dry rice flour together with dry urid flour. The packaged flour is then mixed with water, salt, asafoetida and sesame seeds. The mixture is then kneaded into Murukku dough. By using a Murukku mould, the dough is spirally fried in oil to get Murukku. They are a favorite teatime snack for South Indian people.

Storage advice

Store in a cool, dark and dry place. After opening, transfer contents to an airtight container.

Preparation

  1. Take 500 grams of murukku flour and add 50 grams of butter or vanaspathi with 1/2 teaspoon of king cumin or sesame and mix well.
  2. Add enough water and salt to make dough and knead well until soft and non-sticky.
  3. Using murukku press, make spiral coil on glossy paper or banana leaf.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a frying pan and gently drop the prepared murukku into the frying oil until it turns a light brown color.
  5. Take out the fried murukku and drain the oil.
  6. Now your delicious and crispy murukku is ready.
