Millet is a small grain. Many different types of millet are used in Indian cuisine. In our shop you can buy all types of millet that are also used in Indian cuisine.
Many people are looking for an alternative to wheat products because of gluten intolerance. Millet is basically gluten-free. However, it can happen during the processing process that a so-called cross-contamination takes place. Because several products are processed and packaged, it may be that there are traces of gluten from other products in the millet. Millet varieties that are 100% sure that they do not contain gluten are labeled gluten-free millet in our shop. Millet without this label may contain traces of gluten.
Millet contains a relatively large amount of protein and iron. It also contains magnesium and vitamin B and it is also beneficial for the cholesterol level in the body.
Millet should be cooked and can, for example, serve as a substitute for rice. But it can also be used in your soup, in pudding or muesli.
To help the millet absorb water better, roast the millet in a little oil until some of the seeds break open. For cooking, use 1 part millet to 2.5 parts water. Normally you cook the millet for about 15 to 20 minutes. If it is not cooked by then, cook it a little longer.
Millet is also made into flour. The millet flour can be used in baking various products. You can find it in many of our instant mixes.
The millets from our shop can be kept for approximately 2 years after production. Keep the millet in a dark and cool place. After opening, it is best to store the millet in an airtight container.
