Preparation:
 
  1. Cook the chicken by cleaning and washing it first.
  2. Then add the chicken with the shallots, tomato, turmeric powder, chili powder and salt to water in a pressure cooker.
  3. Cook under pressure to 2 whistles, then simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Now prepare the rasam powder by roasting toor dal with all the other spices including fennel seeds, peppercorns, cumin, coriander powder and chillies and then grind them to make powder.
  5. In the same mix, add garlic and onion and grind together.
  6. Add the rasam powder to the cooked chicken.
  7. Season with salt and bring the rasam to a boil.
  8. Garnish the rasam with some freshly chopped coriander leaves before serving warm.
You can flavor the rasam with a tadka mustard leaf, peppers and hung if you want it spicier.
